The Four-Step Plan for Setting Boundaries

boundaries workshop

Step 1

I ask you three important questions that will allow you to Clearly Define Your Boundaries. Clearly defining your boundary and having realistic expectations is the foundation of successful boundary setting with a parent with borderline or narcissistic personality disorder.

Step 2

I’ll walk you through exercises which will Prepare You for Communicating Your Boundaries to Your Parent. Preparation builds your confidence so you feel more capable going into that (dreaded) conversation. When you have a parent with borderline or narcissistic personality disorder, preparation and planning are your friends!

Step 3

It’s time to Communicate Your Boundaries to Your Parent. You’re finally ready to take action, and you now have a clear plan on how to implement your boundaries. I’ll guide you through that process and give you 10 example scripts of common boundaries to set with a parent with BPD or NPD.

Step 4

I know, it feels like we should be done, right?! Nope! Our final step is super important - I’ll teach you how to Successfully Enforce Your Boundaries and avoid backtracking on them. Pushback is almost a certainty when setting a boundary with a parent with BPD or NPD. I’ll show you how to handle pushback without backing down on your boundaries.

  • In all honesty- probably! You need a clear plan for setting boundaries when your dealing with a parent with borderline or narcissistic personality disorder. And, my guess is, if you were already super clear on what that plan looked like and felt confident executing it, you wouldn't be reading this right now.

This workshop is designed to help provide you with the structure and confidence you need to effectively set boundaries with a parent with borderline or narcissistic personality disorder.

This workshop is great whether you're just thinking about setting boundaries, have tried to set boundaries in the past with little success, are simply curious about what setting boundaries would even look like, or are ready to set boundaries right now.

  • This workshop is not therapy, nor is it a substitute for therapy. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, this workshop is not for you. Instead, please contact a licensed therapist near you or seek support through the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by dialing or texting: 988.

This guide is also not sufficient to address concerns around safety (yours or your parent's). If you are concerned about your parent becoming violent or potentially harming themself in response to you setting a boundary, please contact a licensed therapist near you or reach out to me for coaching.

I can help coaching clients develop plans to appropriately address their safety concerns.
